Study permit application: 4 steps to study in Canada

Canada is one of the countries with the best educational institutions in the world. If you have chosen Canada for your studies, you have already taken the most serious step for your future and career. The next step is where and how to start. We will explain it to you in four steps.

Step 1. Right academic program in Canada. If you are planning your future life and career in Canada, you can start the process by first choosing the academic program that suits you best. Many do not pay attention to this step, which seems insignificant at first glance. Considering this, you can base all your education and professional experience in Canada. For this, first consider your interests and long-term goals. This will greatly increase your chances of getting one step closer to success. Make sure the institution you want to study at is a "Designated Learning Institution" (DLI) recognized by the Government of Canada. It guarantees quality education for international students and also gives you the right to study in Canada. If your goal is to stay in Canada and gain work experience after graduation, it's important to check whether your chosen program is eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGVP). This allows you to gain international work experience by working in Canada for a period of time after completing your education.

Step 2. Prepare Study Permit Application. When preparing your application to study, you must submit the following documents.

  • You must have received an acceptance letter from one of the educational institutions on the DLI (Designated Learning Institutions) list defined by the Canadian government.
  • You must provide proof of financial support. During your first year of living in Canada, you must demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover your living, education and other expenses.
  • Proof of identity. When applying for a study permit, you (as well as family members) must have your passport and travel document. If you apply online, you must upload a copy of your passport. If it is approved, you must submit the original document.
  • You must submit a document related to your medical health.
  • Your visa must be clean, and it must be established that you will not cause any problems in daily life in Canada.

After completing your education, you must convince the responsible persons that you will leave the country without any problems and that you will not stay in the country illegally.

Step 3. Submit the Study Permit Application. After completing the application section, you can proceed to the application. The Canadian government requires applications to be received online. You can start here. There is another way: fill out the application kit that you will download from the address and submit it to the responsible application center. If the study permit application is completely and correctly completed, it is possible to get acquainted with it within a few weeks.

Step 4. Maintain your status. Once your study permit is approved, you are now eligible to enter Canada as an international student and must meet the following requirements to maintain this legal status:

  • You must register with the DLI organization.
  • You must make progress to complete your program.
  • You must fully comply with the conditions set out in your study permit, and if you do not meet the requirements, you must stop your studies.
  • You must not overstay in Canada and leave the country on time.
